Effective novelists are expert psychologists.  They understood human passions: love, hate, sex, violence, jealousy, betrayal and revenge. Their characters develop amid their passion to form a story.

Applied psychology and especially sexual and parent-child social relations underlie almost all novel themes.   Expert novelists are expert psychologists, so studying positive and negative psychology, and mental illness will help create realistic, multifaceted characters who are interacting and changing.
